THANE: Upmarket addresses along Ghodbunder Road in Thane saw one of the noisiest Laxmi pujan celebrations as residents recklessly burst fire-crackers, most of which were heavy smoke generators, a study by anti-noise activist Dr Mahesh Bedekar has revealed.
“Most of the fireworks were smoke-generating and could have potentially worsened the air quality,” he said. As per his readings, the highrise cluster along Ghodbunder Road and Upvan Lake areas independently recorded nearly 95 dB noise levels between 8.30pm and 9.45pm, mostly due to crackers. At multi-storeyed buildings along Gladys Alwares Road, the noise levels were 85dB, while the Naupada stretch was quieter at 70dB as compared to previous years.
