Covid-19: Only 50 people to be allowed at marriage functions in Delhi as DDMA reverts to earlier cap | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: Number of guests allowed in marriage related gatherings across Delhi was capped at 50 on Tuesday after lieutenant governor Anil Baijal approved the AAP government’s proposal to cap the number of guests due to surge in Covid cases. The ceiling was increased to 200 recently but has again been reduced.
“The Covid-19 situation in Delhi has been reviewed and in view of the sudden surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in Delhi, which has been aggravated due to rising pollution levels owing to various factors and therefore it has been decided that the ceiling of maximum persons in marriage related gatherings in Delhi outside the containment zones may be reduced to 50 persons only,” an order signed by chief secretary Vijay Dev in capacity as the chairman of the state executive committee of Delhi Disaster Management Authority stated.
In closed spaces, a maximum of 50% of the hall capacity will be allowed, with a ceiling of 50 persons while in open spaces also only 50 persons will be allowed. In all the functions wearing of face masks, maintaining social distancing, thermal screening, use of hand wash or sanitisers will be mandatory, the order stated.
On October 31 the DDMA had issued an order increasing the number of guests allowed in marriage related gatherings up to 200 persons or a maximum of 50% capacity of the halls in closed spaces.
Since the beginning of November the city started witnessing a surge in Covid cases and the single-day cases rose up to 8500 cases a day. The deaths have also surged and upto 104 single day deaths have been reported. The restrictions were imposed to check the transmission of the coronavirus through weddings as the weddings season is going to start towards the end of November.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Tuesday announced that his government has sent a proposal to LG, who is the chairperson of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, to approve government’s decision to permit only 50 people to attend wedding functions now.
