Go f—- yourself,” Elon Musk writes in a post on X
With his takeover of Twitter last year, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, has experienced tumultuous interactions with sponsors.
It is well known that Mr. Musk is frank and critical, frequently going all out in his comments. And just again, after supporting an antisemitic conspiracy theory on social media, he stoked controversy once more.
Consequently, a number of companies have removed their advertisements from Twitter in response to his comments, including Disney and Apple.
Elon Musk’s Firm Stand: No Tolerance for Blackmail, Even for Marketers
Elon Musk called marketers blackmailers once more after apologizing for the article at the Deal Book Summit. He said that businesses shouldn’t use the platform for advertising if that’s their preference.
Musk stated, “Go f**k yourself, if somebody is going to try to blackmail me with money or advertising, go f**k yourself,” in an interview with The New York Times.
Is that understood correctly? I’m hoping it’s I feel that Bob (Iger) should not promote if he is in the audience.
Elon Musk’s Warning on Advertising Boycott: Impact on X and Stark Reactions
Furthermore, Musk expressed his clear understanding that an advertising boycott will negatively impact the platform.
He did, however, stress that the “whole world will know that those advertisers killed the company” if the site closes.
Notably, Musk’s response was directed at Disney CEO Bob Iger, who had claimed earlier in the summit that his firm was no longer benefiting from Disney’s cooperation with X.
“I greatly admire Elon and all that he has achieved.” Elon is well-known for being bigger than life in many ways and for having his name closely associated with the businesses he started or owns.
We believed that the relationship was not necessarily a good one for us because of his public viewpoint,’ Iger added.
Musk added, “I handed a loaded gun to those who hate me and to those who are antisemitic, and for that, I am quite sorry,” giving Iger and other marketers a cue to back off of X.
A considerable number of big advertisers, like as Disney, Apple, and IBM, have begun to quit running ads on X following Musk’s antisemitic remark.
The article, which charged Jewish groups with fomenting “hatred against whites,” sparked a boycott of X by well-known companies and received considerable criticism.
Challenges Ahead: X Faces Potential $75 Million Loss, Musk’s Actions, and Advertising Dilemma
The New York Times was able to get internal records that suggest that X may lose up to $75 million in sales this quarter as a result of the advertiser boycott.
Apart from the advertisers, Musk’s actions and the way things are going with the Twitter ad boycott may also annoy investors who gave Musk billions of dollars in takeover offers.
The majority of X’s revenue, according to The New York Times, comes from advertising.
To help repair relationships with major companies, Mr. Musk has enlisted the services of industry veteran Linda Yaccarino .
Additionally, Ms. Yaccarino was there in the crowd when he publicly urged advertising to quit using blackmail and halt and stop sending out ads if they so want.
