Copilot key will be accessible on Windows PC keyboards as of this month.
Announced on Thursday that a Copilot key will be included on future Windows PC keyboards to enable text messaging with the virtual assistant of the software developer. Since the Windows key for seeing the Start menu was introduced in 1994, it has been one of the most noticeable additions to the Windows keyboard.
Windows’ Copilot utilizes artificial intelligence algorithms from OpenAI, a Microsoft-backed business that runs its own well-liked ChatGPT chatbot. In reaction to a few written words, it may create text that resembles that of a human. It may be programmed to write emails, respond to queries, generate graphics, and activate PC functions. Employees in companies who purchase Copilot for Microsoft 365 can access Teams chat highlights and receive assistance in creating Word documents.
Microsoft has begun rolling out Copilot for PCs running Windows 11 and 10, the most prevalent operating system in the world. The Copilot can be called upon by depressing the C key while holding down the Windows key. It now has a dedicated key.
Even while Windows isn’t as profitable as it once was, Microsoft still makes 10% of its sales from the operating system, so anything it can do to encourage a wave of PC upgrades could result in an increase in income. Enterprises like Dell and HP
are trying to market upgrades to the PCs that customers, students, and corporate employees purchased during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Microsoft’s president of Windows and Surface, Yusuf Mehdi, stated in a blog post that 2024 will be “the year of the AI PC” due to improvements made to Windows, PCs, and chips.
Prior to the CES conference in Las Vegas next week, device manufacturers will showcase PCs with the Copilot key; these will go on sale later this month. According to Mehdi, the new key will be available on upcoming Microsoft Surface PCs.
A Microsoft representative emailed CNBC to say that in certain situations, the Copilot key will take the place of the Menu or right Control keys. According to the spokesman, certain larger computers will have sufficient space for both the right Control key and the Copilot key.
