Maharashtra announces a public holiday, on January 22
Ram Mandir, Ayodhya: Declared a public holiday on January 22, the Maharashtra government is commemorating the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.
The choice was made in response to a formal request made by Mangal Prabhat Lodha, a leader of the BJP and state cabinet minister.
The state general administration first objected to the motion, claiming that there is no precedent and a public holiday cannot be created for such events.
Nonetheless, the request was sent for clearance to the office of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The Centre planned a ‘half-day’ for all central government offices, institutions, and industrial units across India to commemorate the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple the day before, but now there is a push for a state holiday.
The move by the Eknath Shinde-led government is in line with the directives issued by the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, which announced the closure of government buildings and educational institutions in these states.
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday list, which designates it as a working day, private sector banks would be open.
In order to commemorate the historic occasion in Ayodhya, several BJP-led governments have also implemented bans, such as prohibiting the sale of alcohol or meat and fish.
In the meantime, on January 22, all offices and educational facilities in the state of Tripura will be closed until 2:30 pm.
Ram Mandir will be opened with a small number of invited guests, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries, celebrities, and well-known individuals.
Families of the laborers who built the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya are among the thousands of seers from all over the nation who have been invited to the event.
Ceremonies that started on January 16 are in full flow as the temple town gets ready.
Notably, as part of the preparations for the Ram Mandir consecration ceremony, the Ram Lalla statue has been placed inside the sanctum sanctorum.
